Is Microneedling Right for You?

For skin that feels
almost right —
but not quite.

Most of our microneedling clients are women between 25 and 50 who've graduated from the breakout stage but inherited its consequences: pitted scars from teenage cystic acne, enlarged pores along the cheeks and nose, a texture that photos catch even when mirrors don't. They've tried the retinoids. They've tried the serums. They need a treatment that actually remodels skin, not just exfoliates it.

We also see clients bringing us stretch marks from pregnancy or rapid weight change, surgical scars they want to soften, and fine lines around the eyes and mouth that haven't yet crossed into "needs Botox" territory but feel etched when smiling fades.

Microneedling is not instant. It's a series. But for the right skin concern, the improvements are structural — meaning they don't fade when you stop treatment. Your collagen gets rebuilt, and rebuilt collagen stays.

The Science

How Microneedling
Actually Works.

Your body is remarkably good at healing injury. Microneedling tricks it into healing skin it considered "done."

I.

Controlled Micro-Injury

Sterile single-use needles create thousands of precisely calibrated channels in the dermis — too small to leave scars, deep enough to trigger a full wound-healing cascade.

II.

Collagen & Elastin Synthesis

In the weeks that follow, fibroblasts migrate to the injury sites and lay down new type I and type III collagen — the scaffolding that firms, smooths, and plumps skin from below.

III.

Remodeling Without Heat

Unlike laser resurfacing, microneedling doesn't use heat — meaning it's safer across all skin tones and has no risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation when performed correctly.

What to Expect

Your Microneedling
Session, Step by Step.

Clinical, unhurried, and calibrated to the skin concern we're actually treating.

i
Step One

MD Skin Assessment

Your MD evaluates skin type, concerns, scar depth, and contraindications. We photograph for your clinical record and set expectations for the series.

ii
Step Two

Numbing & Prep

Skin is thoroughly cleansed and topical numbing is applied for 20–30 minutes. Serum (hyaluronic acid, growth factor, or PRP) is selected.

iii
Step Three

Device Treatment

Depth is dialed in per zone — shallower around the eyes, deeper on scarred cheeks. The device glides across skin in overlapping passes. Serum absorbs through the channels.

iv
Step Four

Recovery Plan

Calming post-treatment serum is applied. We review aftercare: no makeup for 24 hours, no retinoids for 5 days, sunscreen religiously. Return in 4–6 weeks.

What We Treat

Microneedling
Targets.

The concerns where we see consistent, meaningful improvement across a 3–4 session series.

Acne Scarring

Pitted, rolling, and boxcar scars respond especially well. A 4–6 session series gradually remodels scar tissue and rebuilds smoother skin above.

Enlarged Pores

Pore walls weaken over time. Microneedling stimulates the surrounding collagen, restoring the tension that keeps pores looking tight and refined.

Uneven Texture

Bumpy, rough, or photodamaged skin smooths progressively. Often dramatic for those frustrated by texture they can't correct with products.

Fine Lines & Crepiness

Best on cheeks, around the mouth, and on the neck. For deeper dynamic wrinkles, microneedling pairs beautifully with Botox.

Stretch Marks

Silver and white stretch marks from pregnancy or weight change can be meaningfully softened. Red/pink (early) stretch marks respond best.

Surgical & Trauma Scars

Once fully healed (usually 6+ months), surgical and trauma scars can be meaningfully flattened and blended with surrounding skin.

Questions, Answered

Microneedling FAQ.

Common questions from our consultations. Call (973) 567-7492 with anything we haven't covered.

How much does medical microneedling cost in Saddle Brook, NJ?
Microneedling is priced per session, with package pricing for a recommended series of 3–4 sessions. Cost varies by treatment area and whether a serum (PRP or growth factor) is added. Transparent pricing is discussed during your complimentary MD consultation. Oasis Circle members receive 15% off all microneedling treatments.
Does medical microneedling hurt?
Topical numbing is applied 20–30 minutes before treatment, making it comfortable for most clients. You may feel a vibration and mild tingling. Areas with thinner skin — forehead, hairline, upper lip — may be slightly more sensitive. Most clients rate the experience 2–3 on a 10-point scale.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Most clients see meaningful improvement after 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart — the time needed for new collagen to form. Deeper concerns like acne scarring may benefit from 4–6 sessions. Maintenance every 4–6 months helps sustain results long-term.
Is medical microneedling the same as a home dermaroller?
No. Home dermarollers reach only 0.25–0.5mm — primarily for product penetration. Medical microneedling uses an FDA-cleared device (SkinPen or equivalent) with sterile single-use cartridges, reaching 0.5–2.5mm — deep enough to trigger genuine collagen induction. The difference in outcomes is significant, and medical-grade treatment is supervised by a physician.
Can microneedling treat acne scars?
Yes — microneedling is one of the most effective non-laser treatments for atrophic (pitted) acne scarring. By creating controlled micro-injuries, we stimulate new collagen to fill in scar depressions over several sessions. Ice-pick, boxcar, and rolling scars all respond, though ice-pick scars may need adjunct treatments. A consultation helps set realistic expectations.
What's the downtime after microneedling?
Expect redness resembling a mild sunburn for 24–48 hours. Some clients experience minor flaking or dryness for 2–3 days. Most return to normal activities the next day, though we recommend avoiding makeup for 24 hours. Full social downtime is typically one day.
Can I add PRP to my microneedling session?
Yes. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is derived from a small blood draw, centrifuged, and applied to the skin during and after microneedling. The growth factors in PRP can enhance healing, collagen response, and results — particularly for scarring. Your MD will discuss whether PRP or a standard growth-factor serum is appropriate for your goals.
Who should not get microneedling?
Microneedling is not recommended during active acne breakouts, active cold sores, active skin infection, or in areas with a history of keloid scarring. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy, for those on certain medications (isotretinoin within 6 months), and for those with bleeding disorders. Our pre-treatment consultation screens for all contraindications.
Can microneedling treat melasma or hyperpigmentation?
Microneedling can help with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and, when combined with appropriate topicals, mild melasma. However, melasma is complex and often requires a multi-modal approach (topicals, specific lasers, sun protection). An MD evaluation determines the right strategy.
Is microneedling safe for all skin tones?
Yes — microneedling is one of the safest collagen-stimulating treatments for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) because it doesn't rely on heat or light energy that can cause post-inflammatory pigmentation. This makes it an excellent alternative to certain laser treatments for many clients.
