Skin type matters. Wavelength matters more. Older laser platforms were unsafe for darker skin tones. Modern multi-wavelength systems are safe across Fitzpatrick I–VI when calibrated correctly. Your clinician determines the right device, wavelength, and fluence for your specific skin and hair.

with the cycle.

Laser hair removal clients are remarkably diverse — college students through professionals in their 50s. The unifying thread: they've added up the time. The minutes per shave × days per week × decades = hundreds of hours of life lost to a chore that doesn't need to exist.

Modern lasers safely target every skin tone, including deeper Fitzpatrick types that older devices couldn't treat. Pulse, cool, repeat. By session 3, hair is meaningfully thinner. By session 6, most of it is gone — and what remains comes back fine, slow, and easy to ignore.

How It Works

How Laser Hair
Removal Works.

Selective absorption: the laser wavelength is absorbed by melanin in the hair follicle, generating heat that disables future growth.

I.

Selective Targeting

Laser wavelength is preferentially absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle. Heat is generated at the follicle, surrounding skin is largely spared.

II.

Follicle Inactivation

Heat damages the stem cells that produce new hair. The current hair sheds; the follicle's ability to grow new hair is reduced or eliminated.

III.

Cycle-Based Series

Hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen). Laser only effectively treats actively growing (anagen) hairs. Multiple sessions catch hairs across all growth phases.

What to Expect

Your Laser
Visit, Step by Step.

Quick, calibrated, and progressive. Each session reduces hair density further; results compound across the series.

i
Step One

Skin Type Assessment

Fitzpatrick skin type evaluation determines wavelength and fluence. Test spot performed for first treatment to confirm safe parameters.

ii
Step Two

Preparation

Treatment area cleansed. Shaved 24 hours prior (we don't shave at the visit). Protective eyewear applied. Cooling gel for some platforms.

iii
Step Three

Laser Pass

Laser pulses are delivered methodically across the treatment area with overlapping coverage. Integrated cooling reduces sensation. Most treatments take 15–60 minutes.

iv
Step Four

Aftercare

Cool compress if redness. Apply mineral SPF before sun exposure. Avoid heat (sauna, hot showers) for 24 hours. Next session in 4–6 weeks.

Questions, Answered

Laser Hair Removal FAQ.

Common questions from our consultations. Call (973) 567-7492 with anything we haven't covered.

Does laser hair removal work on all skin tones?
Yes. Our platform includes wavelengths safe and effective for Fitzpatrick I–VI, including the deepest skin tones that older laser platforms couldn't treat safely.
How many sessions until I'm done?
6–8 sessions for most clients, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Hair on the face often takes more sessions than the body. Annual touch-ups maintain results long-term.
Does it hurt?
Modern integrated cooling makes treatment substantially more comfortable than older platforms. Most clients describe a warm snap or rubber-band feel — not true pain. Topical numbing is available on request.
Can I get this if I'm tan?
Tanned skin (recent UV or self-tanner) is a contraindication — the laser energy is absorbed by skin pigment instead of follicle pigment, increasing burn risk. Wait 4 weeks after sun or self-tanner before treatment.
Is it permanent?
Permanent reduction is the official term. Most treated follicles don't regrow. Some clients see fine, slow regrowth over years that responds to occasional touch-ups.
Can I do this during pregnancy?
No — we don't treat during pregnancy. While there's no specific evidence of harm, hormonal changes affect hair growth unpredictably and treatment is less effective.
Will it work for blonde, red, or gray hair?
Less effectively. The laser targets melanin; light hair has less melanin. We'll discuss realistic expectations at consultation. Some platforms perform better on light hair than others.
